The Malankara Syrian Catholic Church has appointed two new bishops to strengthen its pastoral and apostolic mission. Monsignor Dr. Kuriakose Thadathil, Church Coordinator for the United Kingdom, has been appointed as the Apostolic Visitor to Europe for the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church. Monsignor Dr. John Kuttiyil, Chancellor of the Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum, has been appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of the Major Archieparchy.
The announcement was made by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, during the Almaaya Sangamam at Mar Ivanios Nagar, Adoor. The occasion also marked the 95th anniversary of the Malankara Reunion Movement and the centenary of the episcopal ordination of Archbishop Mar Ivanios.
Bishop-designate Kuriakose Thadathil hails from St. Mary’s Malankara Catholic Parish, Amayannoor, in the Archieparchy of Tiruvalla. Ordained a priest for the Archieparchy of Tiruvalla in 1987, he has served in various pastoral and academic roles and has been the Regional Coordinator of the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church in the UK since 2021.
Bishop-designate Dr. John Kuttiyil, ordained a priest in 2008 for the Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum, has served as Secretary to His Beatitude Cardinal Baselios Cleemis, as well as parish priest in Chala, Karamana, Parottukonam, and at the Queen of Peace Basilica, Palayam. He has also served as Chancellor of the Major Archieparchy and Master of Ceremonies of the Church. He belongs to the Malankara Syrian Catholic Parish of East Kizhakkeru, Kottarakkara, in the Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum.
